Apart from technical differences, difference in units (Russians used SI sytem, Americans used foot-pound,.. system), there was a language barrier too. So, what they decided was that Russians will communicate with Americans in English, and Americans would speak to Russians in Russain. In this way they can understands what another person is speaking.
