Role of Language in Reorientation
In an experiment Modularity and Development: The Case of Spatial Reorientation, researchers found that children and rats can't reorientation themselves in a rectangular room by using the color of the walls. But human adults can.
So, when does the child become an adult? When it learns to use the words left and right. (e.g. The object is on the left of the blue wall)
Partick Winston explains this in his lecture on Cognitive Architecture (https://youtu.be/PimSbFGrwXM?t=2570).
Lesson:
- Be aware of fast talkers (because they will jam you language system)
- Look - Listen - Draw - Talk : Because this will engage your linguistic system. If you take notes on class (even if you won't look at them), note taking will engage your linguistic system.
