Role of Language in Reorientation

In an experiment Modularity and Development: The Case of Spatial Reorientation, researchers found that children and rats can't reorientation themselves in a rectangular room by using the color of the walls. But human adults can.

So, when does the child become an adult? When it learns to use the words left and right. (e.g. The object is on the left of the blue wall)

Partick Winston explains this in his lecture on Cognitive Architecture (https://youtu.be/PimSbFGrwXM?t=2570).
