Epilepsy

Epilepsy is a central nervous system (neurological) disorder in which brain activity becomes abnormal, causing seizures or periods of unusual behavior, sensations, and sometimes loss of awareness.
- Any one can develop epilepsy. One in 26 people experience sizeures during their lifetime.
- A single seizure doesn't count as epilepsy.
- Consult doctor if
- its your first epilepsy
- seizures last more than 5 minutes
- you get injured during seizure
- have diabetes
- have high fever
1. Symptoms
- Confusion
- Staring
- uncontroable jerking movement of legs and arms
- loss of consciouseness or awareness
- psychic symptoms such as fear, anxiety or deja vu
2. Causes
- Genetic
- Head Trauma
- Infectious Disease (AIDS, meningitis,..)
- Brain disorders
- more common on children and old age but can occur at any age
3. What to do if your friend has seizure
- Don't hold, stop
- keep area clear of sharp objects
- place her to her side, to keep the airway clear
- Don't put anything in her mouth. Contrary to a popular myth, you can't swallow your tongue during a seizure. But if you put an object in her mouth, she could damage her teeth or bite you.
