Constitutive Models
(from abstract of https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/B9780124077164000065)
- Stress-Strain Relation: Constitutive models describe the material responses to different mechanical and/or thermal loading conditions.
- Part of Governing Equations: together with the conservation laws and kinematic relations, stress-strain relations formulate the governing equations of the material
Components of Constitutive Models:
- EOSs (Equation of States): Relate pressue to volume & internal energy/temperature
- Strength models: Relate the deviatoric stress to deviatoric strain.
- In addition, a failure criterion is required to identify the onset and describe the evolution of material failure.
